School Photographs

School photographs are online at www.schoolpix.co.uk for parents to access their children's photos. You will need your child's student number (look a the student ID card, or one of the school invoices) and then add the prefix CDNPIX to the number to view the correct photos.

For example, if John Smith has the student number 01234 the access code will be CDNPIX-01234. When the code is typed into the box, the photo will be shown and the order options will be displayed under a drop down menu. There's an example with the access number CDNPIX-1000834.

Prices include UK VAT. For parents ordering, paying and receiving their photos in Switzerland the VAT will be deducted from the total before payment is taken. Prices include postage costs.

For any questions, please contact Andy Faulkner, the photographer, at Pro Portraits International Ltd. andy@schoolpix.co.uk

Honey Bees

This video was made by Laura Marchl, at a web site called Animoto. The students in Class 1o hear a lot about bees from Mrs. Tanimura, who is a bee-keeper herself.

Watercolour Painting (again!)

We've been sketching, drawing and painting a lot on these last hot days of school. 4 chickens hatched from our eggs, so of course we are sketching them! Here are some of our watercolors from the day we took the chickens to the park. We sketched the chickens, and the waterlilies we saw in the pond. Then back in the classroom we added watercolor.

Digging potatoes

Created with Admarket's flickrSLiDR.

Our friend Thierry's family owns a farm near school, and he invited us to come and dig potatoes as part of our Life Cycles Unit of Inquiry. Here are some of the pictures we took that day, and on our pages are pictures we drew.

Life Cycles - Butterflies!

Part of our Unit of Inquiry into Life Cycles was raising butterflies! The caterpillars arrived in the mail. We put them in their habitat, and in 10 days they had become butterflies. We took them outside to watch them fly away.

Click on our individual blogs to read pages from our journals about the butterflies.

A new Unit - Life Cycles

Beginning a new Unit of Inquiry in Life Cycles, we discussed, observed, and investigated the life cycles of caterpillers/butterflies. We drew and painted these pictures, preparing for a display in the hall.

Here are our paintings:

Writing letter of protest!

Our children heard this news story today in class: Problem bear killed by authorities
"The bear, known as JJ3, was killed on Monday after attempts to frighten it away failed in recent weeks, the environment ministry announced.

The bear did not show any fear and had become a danger to the population, a spokesman added.

JJ3 caused problems last year, destroying rubbish bins around the Lenzerheide resort and in the Albula valley. The cantonal government decided it would be killed if it moved into populated areas again." (Read the whole press release at this link)

After a lively discussion, the class decided that the bear deserverd another chance, and shouldn't have been killed. They wrote these letters to the authorities, giving their suggestions for dealing with bears who live too near humans:

Journal entries

From time to time we write in our journals. This week we wrote about our open house at the end of the "Everyone's a Storyteller" unit. We were all in a play, telling several traditional tales. Check each student's blog to see what we wrote.

Stories in paintings

Carl Larsson from Sweden

Winslow Homer from the USA

Marc Chagall from France

As a class we looked at these three pictures, and thought (without talking to each other) about what might be happening. What could the story in the painting be? Then each child chose a painting, and told the story to Mrs. T. who typed as each personal story unfolded. Read each of our blog posts to find out what the stories are.

The doorbell rang

We've been reading "The Doorbell Rang" by Pat Hutchins. It' a story about what happens when some delicious cookies get baked, and friends arrive at the door.

We made 12 little paper people, and 12 little paper cookies, and we do our math lessons working out how to divide the cookies evenly among different numbers of people. We'll be bringing it home, so we can keep working.

We keep the people and the cookies in a pocket in our books, and on each page we work with different numbers of people and cookies, and write the numbers.

Here's a slide show of all our book covers together, but you can see each of ours on our own blog.
